After installing EAS anti-theft systems, many retailers still face false alarms, missed tag detections, and intermittent equipment failures. Instead of identifying root causes, many O&M teams simply replace parts. 一、Common Faults 1: False alarms from the antenna for no apparent reason (most common)

1.Environmental Electromagnetic Interference (the leading cause)

Near-antenna equipment like high-power refrigerators, inverters, LED drivers, POS scanners, metal shelving, roll-up doors, and charging stations, along with parallel wiring, actively generate magnetic interference.

Metal interferes more with RF systems than with AM acoustic-magnetic systems.

2.Crosstalk from Similar EAS Devices in the Vicinity

Adjacent store antennas and nearby aisle units frequency-conflict, triggering each other’s alarms.

3.Residual Label Interference

Undemagnetized soft tags left in carts, baskets, or between shelves keep triggering alarms.

4.Metal flooring, trim, and aluminum door frames weaken or reflect signals.

1.Power Supply Issues

Loose antenna-main unit connections, overly long cables, and poor-quality transmission lines attenuate signals.

3.Host / Antenna Hardware Deterioration

Worn motherboard components, a faulty buzzer, and a broken indicator light cause equipment malfunctions.

四、Common Issue 4: The demagnetizer does not fully demagnetize the card, causing the alarm to sound even after checkout.

1.An underpowered or worn-out demagnetizing plate fails to deactivate tags.

2.Not pressing the label firmly against the demagnetizing plate or holding it too briefly leaves tags active.

3.Repeated magnetization and demagnetization cycles degrade reusable tag performance.

4.Thick packaging blocks the magnetic field and prevents full demagnetization.

五、Differences: Distinguishing Between Faults Specific to AM Acousto-Magnetic Systems and RF Radio Frequency Systems

RF—low-cost but metal-sensitive—malfunction easily in metallic environments.

AM resist metal slightly better but suffer from low-frequency electromagnetic interference and tag-orientation sensitivity.
